I seem to be to keep in mind crossed weapons, maybe swords or axes, in the middle. I read it about 4 yrs back but am unsure how much time it had been out at that time. type was Young Adult I do think The series focuses on Alex, a woman who can talk to the useless and perhaps gets together effectively with Death himself. for the core of fantasy
